Salma Hayek on bond with Penelope Cruz: 'We were strength for each other'

Actress Salma Hayek says she and Penelope Cruz both offered huge support to one another as they tried to make it in Hollywood as actresses from Mexico and Spain, respectively. She said that female solidarity has been her strength, inspiration and her safe space. The 58-year-old actress first found major success in her native Mexico, starring in the telenovela Teresa, which aired for two years across 125 episodes, before stepping into Los Angeles in 1991. Hayek remembers how difficult it was to land roles as a Latino actress during the decade but she was lucky to have Cruz, who moved from Spain to America to make it in Hollywood, to lean on, and vice versa. In an interview with Italian publication IO Donna, Salma said: "In the 1990s, there were no roles for Latinos, I had to fight for every opportunity. It's true, luckily I was able to count on a community of extraordinary women at my side. Penélope Cruz ... We were a refuge and strength for each other. "Female solidarity has been my strength, my inspiration, my safe space. Without this network, I don't know if I would have had the same resilience. I think that friends are food for the soul, you learn from each other's courage." Hayek's first big screen roles were opposite Antonio Banderas in Robert Rodriguez's 1995 action film 'Desperado' and playing a vampire in Rodriguez's cult horror film 'From Dusk till Dawn' , which also starred George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, Juliette Lewis and Harvey Keitel. It was the role of surrealist painter Frida Kahlo in Julie Taymor's biographical film 'Frida', released in 2002, that earned her critical acclaim and recognition and her performance made her the first Mexican actress to receive a Best Actress Oscar nomination. Hayek creates her own stories for Latin audiences via her own independent production company Ventanarosa, which provided viewers with hit series 'Ugly Betty'. The Hollywood Walk of Fame honouree says she created Ventanarosa in 1999 so she could create roles for other actresses like her. Discussing opportunities for Latino performers, she said: "There has been progress, but there is still a lot to do. This is why I continue to produce stories for Latin audiences, Argentina, Mexico. In 26 years of production, I have never thought only of myself. I wanted to create spaces for other artists, to bring work to Latin American countries. "Our latest project is a television adaptation of the popular 1989 novel 'Like Water for Chocolate' by Laura Esquivel: it took us six years to complete and when we consider that there are 600 million Spanish speakers in the world, it is easy to see the potential." CBFC directs makers of Thunderbolt to mute swear words for India release

Ahead of Thunderbolts’ India release, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted it a ‘UA 13+’ certificate. But the certificate hasn’t come without its share of deletions. We’ve learnt that the CBFC has instructed that the terms ‘ass’, ‘prick’, ‘d**k’ and ‘b**ch’ be removed or muted from the Marvel superhero film.An insider reveals that Star Studios, which is distributing the Florence Pugh-starrer in India, had conversations with the makers about whether they should push back on the changes. “If the terms were to be retained, the film would be handed out an ‘A’ certificate. For a Marvel property, that would narrow down the audience base significantly. Teenagers form a big part of the fan base. It would also affect satellite and digital licensing value down the line. So, the team complied with the changes,” shares a source. Interestingly, the film has reportedly secured the same certification in the US and UK, without any cuts or changes.

Rupert Grint welcomes second child with Georgia Groome

English actor Rupert Grint has embraced fatherhood for the second time. The 'Harry Potter' actor and his partner Georgia Groome, who already have four-year-old Wednesday together, have been spotted out and about in Hampstead, north London, with their newborn bundled in a blanket. In photos, the 36-year-old star smiled broadly as he held the baby during a family walk, for which he dressed all in black, reports ‘Female First UK’. Georgia, wearing sunglasses, smiled at the tot and planted a kiss on her forehead. The baby appeared to have inherited their dad's distinctive red hair. A spokesperson for the couple has yet to comment, so no further details about the new arrival are available. The pictures were obtained by The Sun online.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Rupert Grint (@rupertgrint) The 'Servant' actor previously admitted he never stops worrying about his daughter and parenting has made him a "bit of a hypochondriac". He told ‘People’ magazine, "I think becoming a dad forces you to discover things, and now I'm a bit of a hypochondriac. Having a baby, you're worried about her at all times. Everything seems dangerous. I bought a full-size ostrich skeleton. It's 8 feet tall and came fully assembled, but it's so delicate. It's really stressful to have in your living room, especially when we've got a cat and Wednesday running around”. And Rupert told how he found the first night he and Georgia brought their daughter home was "terrifying". He told ‘Esquire’ magazine, "I don't want to go too into detail, but the first night was just terrifying. You can't sleep at all, just constantly checking that she's breathing. Sleeping, in general, for me, is something I've really struggled with. I think as a kid, people always said, 'They died in their sleep’, so I always thought sleep was a really dangerous, dangerous thing”. As per ‘Female First UK’, the 'Snatch' actor also joked he had an “identity crisis” when his daughter arrived, as he thought he had to change his wardrobe so he’d look like a dad. He said: "I struggle with that, being a dad. Had a bit of an identity crisis. I don't know, do I change the way I dress now?". Paul Rudd talks about having a regular job alongside his acting career

As the new Super Nintendo commercial reached the audience, Hollywood actor Paul Rudd looked back at the time when he collaborated with the gaming company for the first time in 1991.   During a conversation with People, Rudd shared that he did not feel like an A-lister even after being a part of "Clueless", four years later. “I didn't really feel so famous," he said, adding that while he was working as an actor, he still had a regular job when he did this commercial. “And then as it slowly started to, as I started getting more work, occasionally someone would say, 'Hey, Clueless!' or whatever. But it wasn't — nothing felt so different really." the 'Friends' actor added. “And, you know, I think just the very nature of the time when there was no social media, there was no internet — everything just went by just a little bit slower,” Rudd added. Paul also shared that he would do whatever kind of work he could get to fund his acting dreams throughout the 90s, including waiting tables and DJing at weddings and bar mitzvahs. However, after the 90s, he rose to fame with movies like "Romeo + Juliet", "Avengers", and "Ghostbusters". Calling working on the new Nintendo Switch 2 advertisement "fun", Paul said that it “felt like old times.” Mimicking the ‘90s ad, Rudd went on, “When you decide to step up to this kind of play, this kind of fun, this kind of experience..." Around a year before the ad was released, a clip from the 1991 advertisement went viral on social media, leaving netizens shocked to find Rudd in it. "It was funny because some people sent it to me, and that's always something I enjoy myself — seeing actors in early commercials that they did," he revealed. 'Final Destination: Bloodlines' director Zach Lipovsky: 'There are lots of death

After 25 years, there is a new twist in store for fans of the Final Destination franchise. With the sixth instalment, 'Final Destination: Bloodlines' premiering in theatres on May 16, director Zach Lipovsky recently teased how the upcoming sequel will deviate from the established pattern of the horror series, reported Deadline. "For this film, the first premonition takes place in 1969," he said, adding, "There are lots of deaths during the premonition, which is what normally happens in the opening sequence of a Final Destination movie, but we then come out of the eye of a different person in the modern day. That's new. For a lot of fans, I think that's going to immediately throw them for a loop. It's going to make them lean forward to try and figure out what's going on." Lipovsky, who co-directed the film alongside Adam Stein, added, "As moviegoers, we love it when you have to lean forward in your seat because a movie is being unpredictable. We switch up a lot of the predictability, including who's going to die next and how they are going to die. You might think it's one person, but it's not. There's a delight in that," as per the outlet. Earlier, the makers unveiled the trailer that shows a tattoo artist inking himself a "Dad" tribute on his arm before being hung by his nose ring on a ceiling fan and burned, reported People. Warner Bros. Pictures recently debuted the first teaser trailer for 'Final Destination Bloodlines' 'Final Destination: Bloodlines' marks the sixth instalment of the long-running horror franchise, following Final Destination 5, which was released in August 2011. The original film, released in 2000, starred Devon Sawa, Ali Larter, Seann William Scott and Tony Todd. Final Destination: Bloodlines goes back to the very beginning of Death's twisted sense of justice. Plagued by a violent, recurring nightmare, college student Stefanie heads home to track down the one person who might be able to break the cycle and save her family from the grisly demise that inevitably awaits them all, reported Deadline. Still from the movie

ASH movie review: Eiza Gonzalez starrer is a unorthodox sci-fi horror

Cast: Eiza Gonzalez, Aaron Paul, Iko UwaisDirector: Flying LotusRating: 2.5/5Runtime: 95 min  “Ash” is a free-flowing film, much like a music video. It has a narrative structure that is unorthodox. Visuals that seemingly have no connection to the main story creep in tangentially. The film does not have a typical narrative. Writer-director Flying Lotus intercuts the sci-fi narrative with hair-raising visuals and robust action sequences as memories of the past start sliding in to give context to what is happening in the present.  “Ash” tells a familiar story of sci-fi discovery gone wrong. Riya (Eiza González) wakes up at a station on a distant planet with no memory. When she looks around she sees mutilated corpses, flickering lights, and a computer system that won’t stop mentioning that there’s an “unusual life force detected”. Riya is groggy. She understands that something vicious has occurred, stumbling around the dead bodies of Captain Adhi (Iko Uwais), Kevin (Beluah Koale), and Davis (Flying Lotus). The crew appears to have been dispatched in brutal ways, the red warning lights of the station bathe the corpses in an eerie glow.We hear the whirring machines and other sinister sounds. Since no one else is around or alive, doubts assail us. Could Riya have done this?   When Brion (Aaron Paul) arrives claiming to have received her distress signal, the focus shifts. The intrigue sharpens. We don’t know whom to trust because Brion too is a mystery. They share a backstory that only one can remember. They are thrust together by necessity but doubts persist. To add to the mystery the computer system continues to communicate that an unusual life form remains on the station. Cinematography by Richard Bluck is intense and revealing. Action sequences are all distinctive. A flashback has Riya struggle with her expedition’s leader, Adhi (Iko Uwais). Riya is desperate, her punches and stabs have a direct link to the awakening knowledge of her immediate past. We also see flashbacks of the crew debating the cost of working with an extraterrestrial life force they can’t hope to understand. The film loses focus in the middle stretch but the tempo picks up speed once Riya understands what really happened to her and her crew. Paul and Gonzalez manage to convince us of their unpredictability quite well.    Flying Lotus,( the moniker used by the man who directed, co-produced, composed the music and played a supporting role in this film), obviously is multi-talented to say the least. He manages to subvert regular tropes in a way that thrills. This is a B-movie that is well-crafted, provides some intrigue and operates on performances that are well suited to the genre. “Ash” may not reinvent the sci-fi horror genre, but it sure makes ‘unspeakable horror’ seem welcoming.

Demi Moore believes 'ageing and being old are not the same thing'

Actress Demi Moore sets an example for many on how one can age gracefully without feeling any pressure and still look stunning at 62. She has been part of the cultural moment where women in their 50s, 60s, and 70s are being celebrated and recognised. Moore believes things are "very different" today than they would've been in the past. "I think that there was a sense of things ending at a certain point as opposed to the reality, which is just that we're evolving, it's not ending," she said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "I have also thought recently about this idea that ageing and being old are not the same thing. And somehow we've confused that and that ageing actually is a tremendous gift," the actress said before adding, "I would not trade -- you could not pay me to be 21. As good as it might sound, it was torture!," she added while speaking at the Time100 summit, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She shared that she is in a "peaceful space of acceptance and freedom". Actress Mikey Madison took home the Best Actress Award at the Oscars 2025. Moore shared that if she could see herself on the Dolby Theatre stage in the future, following her best actress loss to Madison. "I think that would be nice. I can't say I would be mad at it," Moore said, adding, "The question is, 'Should I have won?' It is certainly not the perspective of how I hold it because I didn't. And I really do subscribe to this idea that everything in life is happening for me, not to me," as per the outlet. She said, "Of course, there's disappointment. I also immediately recognise that there is something that is greater than I am to be in service to, even if I don't know what that is." Moore shared further, "The message here is that there's more work to be done, that this issue is not complete," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
